  7.     Trencherman Mickey Spillane, 71, was getting to be better
  8. known for slugging down Miller Lite than for batting out
  9. hard-boiled whodunits. But in November the writer will flex old
  10. muscles with The Killing Man, his first Mike Hammer tale in 19
  11. years. "It's surprising how many people kept asking for another
  12. one," he says. Our hero is still tough as nails: when he isn't
  13. sporting with women, he's always ready "to blow somebody into
  14. a death of bloody, flying parts." Not great taste, maybe, but
  15. definitely more filling. "I don't write for art's sake,"
  16. Spillane says. "I write for money." He's yet to have a case --
  17. let alone a six-pack -- of writer's block that he couldn't
  18. handle: "If I need money, then I unblock real fast." His pay
  19. this time: $1.5 million.
